When it is learnt

Most children learn the 6 times table in Year 4. By the end of Year 4 they should know every table up to 12 × 12, and they take the multiplication tables check in June of Year 4.

Helping at home

  • Chant it forwards, then try it backwards from 6 × 12.
  • Mix the order up once the chant is secure: 6 × 7, 6 × 3, 6 × 9.
  • Turn each fact round: if 6 × 6 = 36, then 36 ÷ 6 = 6.
