A trick for the 2 times table
Every answer in the 2 times table is even, and it is the same as doubling.
When it is learnt
Most children learn the 2 times table in Year 2. By the end of Year 4 they should know every table up to 12 × 12, and they take the multiplication tables check in June of Year 4.
Helping at home
- Chant it forwards, then try it backwards from 2 × 12.
- Mix the order up once the chant is secure: 2 × 7, 2 × 3, 2 × 9.
- Turn each fact round: if 2 × 6 = 12, then 12 ÷ 2 = 6.
