When it is learnt
Most children learn the 5 times table in Year 2. By the end of Year 4 they should know every table up to 12 × 12, and they take the multiplication tables check in June of Year 4.
Helping at home
- Chant it forwards, then try it backwards from 5 × 12.
- Mix the order up once the chant is secure: 5 × 7, 5 × 3, 5 × 9.
- Turn each fact round: if 5 × 6 = 30, then 30 ÷ 5 = 6.
