A trick for the 10 times table
Every digit moves one place to the left and a zero fills the empty ones column.
When it is learnt
Most children learn the 10 times table in Year 2. By the end of Year 4 they should know every table up to 12 × 12, and they take the multiplication tables check in June of Year 4.
Helping at home
- Chant it forwards, then try it backwards from 10 × 12.
- Mix the order up once the chant is secure: 10 × 7, 10 × 3, 10 × 9.
- Turn each fact round: if 10 × 6 = 60, then 60 ÷ 10 = 6.
