A trick for the 11 times table
Up to 11 × 9, write the digit twice: 11 × 6 = 66. Then 11 × 10 = 110, 11 × 11 = 121 and 11 × 12 = 132.
When it is learnt
Most children learn the 11 times table in Year 4. By the end of Year 4 they should know every table up to 12 × 12, and they take the multiplication tables check in June of Year 4.
Helping at home
- Chant it forwards, then try it backwards from 11 × 12.
- Mix the order up once the chant is secure: 11 × 7, 11 × 3, 11 × 9.
- Turn each fact round: if 11 × 6 = 66, then 66 ÷ 11 = 6.
